At-Home Euthanasia

At-Home Euthanasia

As a pet nears the end of his or her life, providing the most compassionate and appropriate care is essential to the wellbeing of both the pet and the family. At Advanced Mobile Vet Care, we understand how stressful and heartbreaking this time can be and also how difficult it can be to make decisions on behalf of your pet. Dr. Stryker will be available to provide you with guidance, advice, and her professional opinion every step of the way.

Evaluating Your Pet's Quality of Life

Deciding when euthanasia is the most compassionate choice for a pet depends on the pet’s condition and quality of life. Some signs that a pet’s health and quality of life are deteriorating include:
Pets have no way to tell us how they feel, and most cats and dogs actually do their best to instinctively mask symptoms and signs of discomfort. This can make it difficult to identify signs of deteriorating illness. If you have any concerns about your pet’s health and quality of life, we welcome you to schedule a consultation or talk to Dr. Stryker over the phone.

What to Expect During the Euthanasia

Euthanasia makes it possible for pets to pass away peacefully without unnecessary pain, anxiety, or suffering. Advanced Mobile Veterinary Care performs euthanasia procedures in our patients’ homes so that they can remain where they are happiest during their final moments.
Each pet’s appointment begins with a physical evaluation and discussion of the pet’s condition and symptoms to ensure that euthanasia is the most compassionate choice. We will discuss aftercare options and ask the pet’s owner to sign a consent form.
We always welcome families to remain with their pets during a euthanasia procedure to provide comfort and support. Our veterinarian will first administer an injection of anesthetic to relax the patient( and ensure there’s no pain). Euthanasia is then intravenously administered to the pet, allowing the pet to pass away peacefully without pain.
